It's billed as a
celebration of the American Muscle
Car, a lifestyle-community of racers
who love the sport of grassroots
drag racing, fast cars and great
music. But it's much more than that.
From Pullin Television, the
producers of the hit series PINKS on
SPEED Channel comes 1320x, a series
of regional drag racing and
concerts. The events held around the
country combine racing with a
festival atmosphere, a
manufacturer's midway and car show,
followed by a classic rock concert
as the nightcap - all captured on
video as content for the
www.1320x.com web portal.
The heartbeat of 1320x is the
"social networking community" web
portal. On this site, racers will be
able to communicate with each other
through a collection of integrated
message boards, create their own
page, meet and challenge other
racers from around the world,
purchase swag, buy music and search
for parts or equipment for their
rides. The inclusion of manufacturer
"How To" videos along with a glimpse
of the latest and greatest, will
establish 1320x as a destination for
like minded muscle car enthusiasts.
The first two events will be held
simultaneously on July 4th at the
Texas Motorplex, where Grand Funk
Railroad will perform, and Milan
Dragway in Michigan (Band TBA). Both
venues will coincide with the
typical 4th of July festivities,
adding its own celebration of
American muscle cars.
From a marketer's viewpoint, 1320x
offers a combination of sport &
music sponsorship and experiential
marketing; marketers get access to a
captive audience during an all day
enjoyable activity - allowing them
better opportunity to engage their
consumer.
Spectators will play a major role in
the series, as voting will take
place to award their favorite cars
with prizes and the chance to
compete in a "shootout" at the end
of the day. Along with interactive
displays and contests, 1320x
provides a big package for fans of
muscle cars and marketer's a like.
The racing will be split into four
distinct classes, Open Comp, Grudge,
Outlaw Drag Radial and Outlaw 10.5.
In Open Comp qualifying sessions,
spectators will vote their best
vehicles. The top four cars from
each brand; Ford, Chevy,
Buick/Old/Pontiac and Mopar; will be
selected to compete in a
bracket-style tournament, with one
winner standing at the end to
receive the coveted Manufacturer's
Cup trophy.
