Longtime Top ET competitor Jaycee
Largent was the lone successful
participant in the Pick Royce’s
Pocket Challenge. Since the
beginning of the program five years
ago, the Top ET participant has
always risen to the challenge and
taken money out of Royce’s pocket.
Jaycee was able to run dead on his
dial to make Top ET a perfect 5 for
5. Royce put Jaycee in the left lane
for his run. Royce, trying to get in
Largent’s head kept insisting that
Jaycee should be on an 8.46, but
Jaycee stuck with his instinct and
kept the 8.47 dial in. Jaycee ran it
out the back running dead on with a
2 to take home half a year’s entry
fee for Top ET races.
Shortly afterward, Royce’s pocket
got a reprieve when the Mod ET and
Junior Dragster competitors, Brian
McLaughlin and Christopher Mattera
respectively, just missed their dead
on runs by a combined .006.
McLaughlin had just won the Mod ET
bogie run and came to the line
dialed 9.55. Royce asked him if he
wouldn’t be more comfortable dialed
a 9.56, and Brian indicated he was
already holding 2 with the 9.55
dialed. Brian ran it down the track,
whopped the gas a couple times, but
it was one or two too many as he ran
a 9.561 missing some of Royce’s
money by just .002. Christopher
Mattera dialed an 8.97 based on the
8.97 he had just run. He picked up
just a little this time, and missed
getting Royce’s money when he broke
out running, 8.966 on the 8.97 dial.
Devin McLain was supposed to make a
run on his motorcycle, but broke his
bike during time runs. Royce agreed
to let him have his shot at the next
Speed Unlimited ET series event he
is able to participate in.
In Top ET, Bobby Spence jumped to
the top of the point standings with
a win over Larry Cox. Tommy Norton
was the lone semi-finalist in his
brand new Racetech dragster. Sitting
second in points is the “Mayor” of
Budds Creek, Charlie Yingling with
Jaycee Largent sitting in third. In
Mod, Butch Weinreich made a
significant jump in the points after
he won Saturday night over Tony
Mattera. David Butler and Pat
Estevez were the semi-finalists.
Brian McLaughlin maintained his
points lead, although by a single
point over David Butler. Weinreich
and Tony Mattera sit in third and
fourth respectively.
Jermaine Proctor may be the hottest
racer at MIR so far this season
winning both events completed this
year in motorcycle. Although it’s
just been 3 events, he is already
leading the points by more than 5
rounds and is showing no signs of
slowing down. He picked up his
second win of the year Saturday,
this time over Darrell Mahoney.
Mahoney sits second in points and
McLain, despite not being able to
race Saturday, still sits third in
points. The Junior Dragster
competitors remaining in competition
from the second race, came back last
Saturday to finish that race.
Christopher Mattera who won the
first race of the year once again
found himself in the finals. There
he matched up with Corey Maloney who
got the holeshot and was able to
hold of Mattera’s bid to win the
first two races of the year. Shane
Parker picked up the win in
Saturday’s race with a perfect light
in the final. Shane got past
Adrianna Estevez in the final. The
lone semi-finalist was Maria
Estevez. Christopher Mattera still
holds down the top spot in points
with Corey Maloney in second, 4
rounds back. Adrianna Estevez,
Robert Estevez, and Brad Keyton all
sit tied for third.
