The Speed Unlimted Series racers were chomping at the bit pumped and ready for action after a rare 4 week hiatus. Along with the Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman Series, a full day of racing awaited all racers and fans in attendace. 2006 Motorcycle track champion Kelly Clontz took home the trophy in Motorcycle, saying “It’s been so long since I’ve been to the MIR Winner’s Circle, I needed a GPS to find it.” Jeff Sweeney continues to have a career year in the class as he extended his points lead.

With some of the Junior Dragster racers “on vacation” in Bristol, TN, Adriana Estevez made the day hers as she raced her way to her first victory of the season, moving all the way up to a tie for 6th in the points with her cousin Maria. Christopher Mattera was able to gain ground on Brad Keyton and move into a tie for the points lead heading into the next race. Heading to the Dash, it’s too close to call on who will be the Top 10 drivers battling for the 2012 championship.

Ed and Nicole Talbert of Woodbine, MD have always been tough customers in Mod ET. Nicole, a graduate of the Junior Dragster program and 2010 Mod ET Runner Up, used her lightning quick reflexes on the tree to make it all the way to the final, to face a racer whom she knows better than anyone else, her own father Ed. Unfortunately for Nicole, she was a little too quick on the tree in the final and by a hundreth of a second, she handed the win to Ed, who with a smile along with daughter Nicole, celebrated in the Winner’s Circle.

The Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman Series made its 2012 debut at MIR, bringing with it some of the wildest and amazing looking 1/8 mile doorslammers. As the dust settled, the last two drivers standing were number 1 qualifier Greg Bruce in his 1967 Corvette, consistently running in the 4.60’s all day long, taking on 24th qualifier Vincent Fowler in his 2000 Chevy Beretta. Side by side all the way to the stripe and the win went to Fowler, running 5.176 on a 5.17 dial. Not content with just the Top Sportsman win, Fowler merged into 6th round of Top ET, making it all the way to the final, and as you guessed it by the title, doubled up and won Top ET, claiming his first victory at MIR.
